I Bleed Black and Gold
+
I have this thing for Black and Gold... the combination is nothing short of brilliant. On tees, shoes, jewelry, whatever......okay, with the minor exception of Teeth.
Anywho, as if Diesel wasn't already hip (and effin pricey) enough, they introduced the world to Diesel Black Gold. A more upscale spin-off of it's trendy denim predecessor.
The show for S/S '09 had some sort of Military-esque/Marching band motif with the stately headwear and cummerbunds... and feathers (weird.. but cool nevertheless)... and also had a solid element of denim in jackets, pants, and short dresses. They certainly didn't forget where they came from.
I likes.
Tees in the current collection for men will set you back anywhere from $60 to $150 while a women's all-black trench will run you about $800 in the hole and $400 will get you a short dress.
See you at the Neiman's Last Call clearance rack!

The Angel of R&B
+
August 25th came and went here in 2008 just as it did in 2001. Considering that it wasn't even a full month before the September 11th attacks occurred, the date doesn't stick out in our minds as one just as tragic. One life lost prematurely is just as sorrowful as many.
The world lost one of it's true talented gems when Aaliyah perished on that day in August of 2001.
Seven years later, Fader Magazine released it's Icon issue featuring several images of the late artist and passages of quotes and heartwarming memories from friends Missy, Fatima Robinson, Dame Dash, Mark Ronson and artists she inspired like Cassie, Beth Ditto, and Ciara.
Reading through the feature, one can't help but wonder, what would she be doing now? What designers would be diving in the aisles for her? What movies would she be starring in?
Hope to see her in Heaven.

Sol-Angel on Kimmel
+
Kudos to Solange for working her humor and showing her more professional side (as well as some legs that had me drooooooling while she was seated) on Jimmy Kimmel the other night.
After one of her best interviews yet, she then wrapped up the show with this sooper cute performance of one of my favorite jams of the moment: "I Decided" and then returned from break with "Sandcastle Disco."
She's most certainly got my vote. Album is awesome, she's got a very courageous sense of fashion, and she's effin cute. Gotta love her.
Shout out to my boy Terrence and the peeps (that's you George, Owner/Operator... lol) over at Solange-K.net for pointing this video out to me since it was initially hard to find. :-D

I'm Feelin The Spirit
+
I love a good comic book... yes, I'm secretly a comic book geek.
There is something about the thought of making this grand entrance into Grand Central Station with the winds, controlled by your mind, blowing your flawless 'do and super tight costume about while people gawk at the sight of you, glowing as if you're an Angel descending from Heaven that just turns me on.
You know you imagined having Storm's powers too. Ha ha.
Anywho, The Spirit movie, based on the comic of the same name, looks as if it will bring us a whole new bevy of beautiful, feminine characters that have a serious bite and a sharp eye for fashion. Look out for it this Xmas.
Starring Sameul L. Jackson (cool), Eva Mendes, Scarlett Johansson and from the looks of it, Swarovski!! Wish I could take the credit but the cool posters are property of Lionsgate.

I Vant to Vear Zees Clozing
+Denis Simachev makes my creative juices cream. Ha, I know! Gross illustration right?
But seriously... he captures my heart in his Fall-Winter '08 Collection.
I can assume it's the morning-after result of what would happen if the label Sean John, drunk and plastered off Ciroc, was left alone with creative genius, yet kind of creepy and peeping, Tom Ford.Like a curious Wall Street broker stumbling into a boutique in Harlem and getting a bit of a makeover before his trip to Moscow, this collection is a fiery mash-up of street fashion and formal wear with a Russian trim.
Unfortunately, you can't get Denis Simachev's, a native of Russia, products here in the states just yet. Make your angry phone calls to Barneys after your trip to the very interesting DenisSimachev.com (where these photos of some of my favorite looks, which
were REALLY hard to pick by the way, can also be found).

Arlenis Sosa is On Set
+I truly discovered Arlenis Sosa in the current issue of Harper's Bazaar (Somehow I missed her in the famous
black-issue of Vogue Italia). She's beauuuuutiful. And like Jourdan Dunn and Sessilee Lopez, I think she will satisfy the crowd of people who are still unsatisfied with the mixed race/light-skinned looks of Chanel Iman and Selita Ebanks being a cop-out for a fashion world that seems incapable of consistently including blacks.Arlenis Sosa is an outstanding representation of the Dominican Republic, an island nation next door to Haiti, where 73% of the population attribute their looks to White, Black and/or Taino heritage (according to Wikipedia).
I've had the pleasure of meeting many gorgeous Dominican's in my home state of Florida, but not one as striking as Arlenis. Can't wait to see more from her.
